How to Make an Iron Man Costume

There is no question that the popularity of the new Iron Man movie with the general public will mean that it is SURE to be an immensely popular at Halloween. I woudn't be surprised if Iron Man Costumes were the most popular costume seen this Halloween.

As popular as the Iron Man movie is, it won't surprise me to see the Iron Man costume worn by young and old so no matter whether you are looking for an Iron Man costume for your little trick or treater or for an office costume party, you need to consider an Iron Man costume of your very own.

You can build your own Iron Man costumes or you can buy an Iron Man costume and I will show you how either way.

Iron Man Costume Instructions

Items that You Will Need:

  • Yellow/Gold Long sleeve cotton shirt
  • Yellow/Gold spandex pants. (Be brave)
  • Red turtleneck or red short-sleeved t-shirt
  • Red bike shorts (Again...be brave.
  • Red spandex fabric to match bike shorts
  • Red boots (optional)
  • Yellow socks (optional)
Step1
To begin making the costume you must cut the sleeves off the Red t-shirt. Then, cut the sides out of the shirt. Place the red shirt over the yellow shirt. You will wear both layers at once. Sew or glue the red shirt to the outside of the yellow shirt.

Step2
Cut the legs off the red bike shorts to make them look like Iron Man's. You will wear these over the yellow spandex pants or yellow leggings if you prefer. You can also fold the legs of the bike shorts up underneath if you don't want to ruin them. Look at the picture and imitate.

Step3
Wear your modified red shorts over the yellow pants and imitate the picture.

Step4
This part can be tricky and its much easier if you can find red boots that stop mid thigh. As an alternative you can cut red fabric to go around the bottom of your pants to about mid-calf. Either sew it or glue it to the pants. Wear the pants with matching yellow socks.

Step5
The next step again is made much easier with a pair of red gloves that go up to your mid-forearm. As an alternative you can cut red fabric to fit around your forearms to simulate the gloves. Again you will either sew or glue them to the yellow t-shirt.

Step6
For a helmet, if you want to go low dollar then you can paint your face yellow with the face paint but I would recommend that if you buy nothing else you at least buy an Iron Man mask or Iron Man Helmet. It will finish your Iron Man costume much better.

That's it. A relatively low buck way to build your very own Iron Man costume. For me it sounds like a lot of work. I think I would just buy one instead seeing as I am lazy.
